What Attracts MLM Prospects, What Repels them, What Attracts "Suspects" and What You Can Do About It

Have you ever wished there were a Genie in a bottle that could give insights on what attracts mlm prospects? Are you ready for the answers as to why your off line prospecting methods have never worked and why you're doomed to fail with online prospecting if you don't "get it"? See, when I was prospecting off-line. In the back of my mind I knew there was a limit to the amount of people I can prospect in a day. I knew there was a shortage of people who would be business minded enough to understand why network marketing is the best business system on the planet. And because I "knew this", that is what I experienced. I was in a state of lead deficit and I expressed it in the way I was prospecting. I came across as desperate when I called people up with whom I have little or no rapport with, asking them to check out my business or it's products... as a favor. I was the family member/friend that would wear out my welcome and over step boundaries trying to magically turn the disinterested into interest by bringing up the business every chance I got. That is not what attracts prospects...thats how you attract suspects. What Attracts *Suspects* Is What YOU Stand To Gain From THEM All the verbal and non-verbal attitudes of my scarcity mindset had me using sale-y, fear of loss tactics to sponsor representatives.
When it did work the quality of people it attracted was not the cream of the crop. Mostly they were other well intended yet scarcity minded folks. That's what repels prospects and attracts *suspects*. These are the people who come to your business opportunity meeting to see the "gotcha" in what seems to good to be true. They come because they are curious not because they're serious. They are the one's who will never support your scam business even is you represented the last company that made your product even if it was something they wanted or needed. They came to the meeting and discovered exactly how much they were worth to you in dollars and cents and they were not willing to have you profit off them and their friends. This is mainly because they feel like they are just a number to you. And what did you expect? The presenter in the front of the room made it obvious that they need a "check up from the neck up" if they can't see why they need to get in tonight! And they're sitting there thinking, "Whats the rush about getting started tonight? I need to talk to my spouse and do my due diligence". Then you're encouraged to get your power closer upline leader persuade them into getting started for the wrong reasons and they bite the dust in short order. What Attracts MLM prospects is the Appeal of What They Will Gain By Being Associated With YouOne day I made a decision to change all of that. I decided that if my business was so great, and if I was such a good sponsor I should be able to attract business the same way other great business do... They let their reputation speak for them. I was going to have to let go of the "Just come take a look" attitude, I had to be willing to invest the time to educate my prospect about networking, marketing, prospecting and sales before I even consider sponsoring them. That's what attracts MLM prospects. What I realized was we were trying to sell a business to people who primarily had no idea or didn't really understand business or networking or marketing. We tell them to "earn as you learn", fail forward... "just talk to 10 people a day". So, they're harassing their friends and family, cold calling leads, dropping pick-up lines sizzle cards etc. with little clue of what they are and why. The worst thing is, when these sorts of activities sporadically result in someone actually getting sponsored, it gives the false hope that it "works if you keep working it." Understand that for the most part, or at least in all the ways that matter your business is like everyones else's. I hate to be the one who breaks it to ya, but... Everyone thinks there business is the best and those lame pick up lines they train you to use on prospects like "I know you're business but, aside from what your doing are you open to making some extra money?", "Do you keep your business options open?" or "If they money were right and you could fit it into your schedule would you be willing to look at a great business idea?" are the same exact ones every other company is using. Why? Because some guys in a suit with a degree (obviously not in marketing) sold your company owners and co-founders on the idea that this attracts mlm prospects:
- Our products are unique!
- Our opportunity is ground floor!
- Our comp-plan is the superior mode!
- Our industry is the fastest growing!
- Our company is endorsed by {insert celebrity name here}!
And all your real prospects are thinking is, "So What?" You have just spayed prospect repellant! They are always tuned into the classic radio station "W.I.I.F.M" Whats In It For Me! We tend to think our prospects only need half the story. The good parts about all the money they can make from "3 who get 3" and all the reasons your company is they one to join. Do what I call conditional closing. This is where you let your potential prospect know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and be willing to not invite them on to your team until they fully commit to taking responsibility for their own success. When you encourage prospects to prove themselves as having the necessary mindset and level of desire to do what it takes long enough to succeed, you both win. The choice to do business together or not becomes a mutually beneficial decision not just you trying to "get them in". That is what attracts prospects! Attract the best,
